About IRAC

Institute for Research in Applicable Computing

Director: Professor Dayou Li

The Institute enjoys its international reputation in research in connected AI and networked robotics, nanotechnology, cybersecurity and digital health. IRAC has led and participated in more than 15 EU-funded research projects and handful projects funded by the UK funding bodies including the Home Office and Innovate UK in the past ten years. The Institute has developed its research networks with academic and industrial partners at Cambridge, Warwick, Sheffield, Cranfield, Essex, Hal Robotics, TWI in the UK, Aahus Â鶹´«Ã½AV, Ciet, KIT, Â鶹´«Ã½AV of Oldenburg, Â鶹´«Ã½AV of Aveiro, Wroclaw Â鶹´«Ã½AV of Science and Technology, BAS, Â鶹´«Ã½AV of Szeged, Danish National Metrology Institute, Brno Â鶹´«Ã½AV of Technology, Elements Srl, Robotnik Automation, Iquadrat Informatica, Ebos technologies, Cognitechna s.r.o, BringAuto s.r.o, Wings ICT Solutions, OTE, NEC, Cal-Tek in Europe, and Johns Hopkins Â鶹´«Ã½AV, Emory Â鶹´«Ã½AV, Nagoya Â鶹´«Ã½AV, Tianjin Â鶹´«Ã½AV, Changchun Â鶹´«Ã½AV of Science and Technology, Monash Â鶹´«Ã½AV, ICT-UNIFESP in the USA, Asia, Australia and sorth American.

All of IRAC's activities reflect the strong motivation within the Institute for developing novel applications of computer technology to solve real-world problems and for providing innovative tools to enable users to employ computer technology more efficiently and more effectively. Some active research areas include:

  • Connected AI and network robotics: our network applications for deploying AI systems within cloud robotics have been adopted by multiple industrial sectors and were showcased as a special tutorial at ICRA24.
  • Use of novel technologies in healthcare and lifestyle management.
  • Laser interference lithography based nano materials fabrication.
  • Nano manipulation and measurement on living cells.
  • Sustainable construction and zero carbon solutions
  • Advanced networking and telecommunications.

IRAC also hosts a range of seminars which reflect the research and teaching interests and are presented by Institute members and invited speakers from institutions both in the UK and abroad.
